Meet the Imam

Imam Saulih Abdur-Ra'uf converted to Islam at a young age and challenged himself to acquire as much knowledge as he could about the religion and the Arabic language. He attended the Imam's Training Program and graduated Summa cum laude in Naperville, Illinois, USA. This program was held at North Central College and administered by Darul-Iftaa in 1977.
In addition, he earned a certificate in Temple University's arabic language program which was conducted by the Directorship of Dr. Ismaa'il Faruqi in 1977. Understanding that he needed to travel to an Islamic country to gain more expertise, he completed another Imam training program, also graduating Summa cum laude. This program took place at King Abdul-Aziz University located in Mecca, Saudi Arabia in 1978.
Next Imam Saulih earned a graduate certificate in an Intensive Imam Training Program (which covered all of the specialized Islamic Sciences) conducted in Washington, DC, USA in 1998. He was also mentioned in the book, "Who Speaks for the Muslims in America" as a student of exceptionable ability having learned how to read, write, and speak Arabic at young ages.
Imam Saulih Abdur-Ra'uf has served as an Imam according to the understanding of "Ahl-ul Sunnah wal-Jamaa'ah in Philadelphia Pennsylvania for well over four decades. He currently resides in the East Oaklane section of Philadelphia with his wife Suad Malik.

This masjid is conveniently located, for commuters, near Broad and Olney. The khutbah may be long. However, the imam remains on topic. Also, he provides many references from Quran and Hadith. The masjid is very nicely designed and decorated. The sisters area is comfortably separate from the brothers. The sisters section has beautiful rugs and a lovely bathroom with wudu stations.
